Rising Sun, a 138 metre privately owned motoryacht often seen in association with the BMW Oracle America’s Cup team, carries three tenders
built by Vaudrey Miller Yachts. They include a 12.3m classic style speed boat, a 10.25m sport boat and a 12.4m service catamaran.
They were construction from Corecell foam, E-glass and up to 60% carbon fibre because high performance was a prerequisite and overall
weight limits applied. All three tenders are built to high-end specifications but the retro-styled Classic is the focus of the fleet. It blends
contemporary and traditional elements to great effect and the warm tones of the mahogany and holly timber decking harmonise with
the jet black hull, off-white upholstery and polished stainless steel fittings.A forward cabin nestles under the foredeck and the
rounded sheerline merges with the tumblehome and two tier boarding platforms at the stern. Engine driven air conditioning is
available to heat or cool the cabin, and a shower and boarding ladder are integrated within the transom detailing. Side doors
provide an easy entry from the dock into the expansive cockpit which provides multiple seating options, and a raised sunbed
above the engines.
The tenders carry comprehensive engineering, electronic and hotel systems to nurture and support high profile guests.
Navigational information is provided by Raymarine electronic packages and each tender is fitted with a SML
transponder that constantly transmits speed, course and position to the mothership. An Iridium phone provides onboard
voice communication throughout the world. The propulsion systems were standardised although the model
specifications vary with each tender; twin six-cylinder Yanmar diesels driving through gearboxes and Hamilton
waterjets power the Sport to 36 knots and the Service Cat and Classic to around 40 knots. Rising Sun’s
tenders are being maintained in pristine delivery condition and the team at Vaudrey Miller Yachts are proud
that the world’s leading businessmen and sportsmen are relying upon and appraising their work.
